A candidate who scores 30% fails by 5 marks, while another who scores 40% gets 10 more marks than the minimum pass marks. The minimum marks required to pass are
(a) 40
(b) 50
(c) 55
(d) 65

Answer: (b) 50 

Solution:-
Let the total marks be X

According to the question,
X x 30/100  + 5 = X x 40/100 – 10
3 X/10 + 5 = 4 X/10 – 10
4 X/10 – 3 X/10 = 10 + 5
X/10 = 15
X = 150

Then, minimum marks = 150 x 30/100 + 5
= 45 + 5
= 50

Hence, the correct answer is option (b) 50.
