A person travels 7 km eastwards and then turns right and travels 3 km

A person travels 7 km eastwards and then turns right and travels 3 km and further turns right and travels 13 km. What is the shortest distance of the present position of the person from his starting point?
(a) 6 km
(b) 3 sqrt.5 km
(c) 7 km
(d) 4 sqrt.5 km

    Answer: (b) 3 sqrt.5 km

    Solution:-
    According to the  question look at the below figure

    RE: A person travels 7 km eastwards and then turns right and travels 3 km


    Then, the shortest distance between starting point to end point = (6^2 + 3^2)^1/2
     = (36 + 9)^1/2
     = (45)^1/2
     = 3 sqrt.5 km

    Hence, the correct answer is option (b) 3 sqrt.5 km.
