Cloves are the aromatic buds of a tree in the family Myrtaceae. It is found in the Maluku Islands in Indonesia, India, Madagascar, Pakistan, Sri lanka and Tanzania. It is used as spice.

The clove tree is an evergreen tree that grows up to 8–12 m tall, with large leaves and sanguine flowers grouped in terminal clusters.

It is used in Indian Ayurvedic medicine, Chinese medicine, western herbalism and dentistry where the essential oil is used as anodyne (painkiller) for dental emergencies. It is also said to be a natural anthelmintic.
