All of above note given has the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi Printed on them. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) central of India introduced the series in 1996 with the 10 and 500 banknotes. Nowadays the Reserve Bank of India issues banknotes in denominations from 5 to 1000. The Reserve Bank of India has the sole authority to banknotes in India.

Rabindranath Tagore had given the title of ‘Mahatma’ to Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi well known as BAPU but Gandhi had refused to accept it.
