    Answer:  (4) 80 

    Explanation:-
    The ratio of two numbers = 5: 8 
    Let the two numbers be 5 X & 8 X

    If their difference is 48, 
    8 X – 5 X = 48 
    3 X = 48
    X = 48/3
    X = 16 

    Then, the two numbers are 5 X = 16 x 5 = 80  & 8 X = 16 x 8 = 128.

    So, the smallest number is 80. 

    Hence, the correct answer is option (4) 80.
