    Antony Van Leeuwenhoek

    A Dutch cloth merchant, who known as the father of the microbiology discovered of bacteria, last middle 17th century. Antony Van  Leeuwenhoek (24 October 1632) also one of them was who had no degree, and knew no language other than his native Dutch. Succeeded in making some of the most important discoveries in the history of biology by the Leeuwenhoek.  He made his own simple lenses to try to satisfy his curiosity about living things. Leeuwenhoek observed the bacteria in suspension of white material he obtained from his teeth – dental plaque.
    The single celled organisms “Protozoa” was discovered by the Leeuwenhoek, and he call them “animalcules”.

    Scientists classify bacteria into three shapes,
    Sphere (coccus)
    Spiral (spirillum)
    rod (bacillus)

    • Bacteria are alive! They are the simplest form of life known, being made up of only one cell.
    • Bacteria usually live in colonies and reproduce quickly.
    • People have more bacterial cells in their bodies than human cells, and more than there are people on the planet.
    • Bacteria have been on earth for 3 billion years, and you know that bacteria in the nose and mouth are what cause bad breath and some bacteria live without oxygen
    • Bacteria can reproduce about once every 20 minutes.
    • The smell of rain is caused by a bacteria called “Actinomycetes.”
    • Most antibiotics are made from Bacteria.
    • Supplements like zinc and vitamin C support the immune system and can help fight infection.
