    Abanindranath Tagore

    Abanindrananth Tagore was the painter of the famous painting Called ‘Bharatmata’. ¬†Abanindranath Tagore, ( 7 August 1871 – 5 December 1951) was the son of Prince Dwarkanath Tagore and the nephew of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore. Abanindranath Tagore was the principal artist and originator of ‘Indian Society of Oriental Art’ and first major exponent of Swadeshi values in Indian art.

    The image of Bharat Mata formed with the Indian independence movement of the late 19th century. Abanindranath Tagore portrayed Bharatmata as a four-armed Hindu goddess wearing saffron-colored robes, holding the Vedas, sheaves of rice a mala and a white cloth.
