Sodium (Na) is a highly reactive metal.

Sodium reacts quickly with water, also with snow and ice to produce sodium hydroxide and sodium chloride (NaCl) which is known as salt.

Metallic sodium is mainly used in production of sodium borohydride, sodium azide, indigo, triphenylphosphine. It is used as heat transfer fluid in some fast reactors.
