A shopkeeper buys 144 items at 90 paise each. On the way 20 items are broken. He sells the remainder at ₹ 1.20 each. his gain percent correct to one place of decimal is

    Answer: (3).  14.8%

    The shopkeeper buys 144 items at 90 paise each.
    Therefore cost price of 144 items = 144 * .90 = 129.6

    According to question, 20 items are broken on the way.
    Therefore, remaining items are 144 – 20 = 124 items. 
    A shopkeeper sells it at cost Rs. 1.20 each item, therefore the selling price of these 124 items = 124 * 1.20 = Rs. 148.8

    Cost price = 129.6 , Selling price = 148.8, C.P < S.P therefore, shopkeeper get profit on these 144 items.
    Gain = S.P – C.P = 148.8 – 129.6 = 19.2
    Gain % = gain * 100 / C.P = 19.2 / 129.6 * 100% = 14.8%.
