The greatest number that will divide 729 and 901 leaving remainders 9 and 5 respectively, is

    Answer: (2) 16
    Explanation:-
    New number  = 729 – 9 = 720
    and   = 901 – 5 = 896
    The HCF of 720 and 896
    Factors of 720 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 x 5
    Factors of 896 = 2 x 2 x 2 x2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 7
    The HCF of 720 and 896 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 16
    Hence, the answer is (2) 16.
