How much Time B will Take to Fill the Remaining Tank?

Pipe A can fill an empty tank in 6 hours and pipe B in 8 hours. If both the pipes are opened and after 2 hours pipe A is closed, how much time B will take to fill the remaining tank?

    Answer is (3): 10/3

    Explanation:-
    Pipe A can fill an empty tank = 6 hours
    Therefore, A can an empty tank in an hour = 1/6

    Pipe B can fill an empty tank = 8 hours
    Therefore, B can fill an empty tank an hour = 1/8

    Both pipe can fill an empty tank in 2 hours = 2(1/6 + 1/8)
       = 2 (4 + 3)/24
      = 2 x 7/24
      = 14/24

    The remaining empty tank = 1 – 14/24
     = (24 – 14)/24
     = 10/24

    Then, time taken by B to fill the tank = 10 x 8/24
     = 10/3 hours

    Hence, the answer is (3) 10/3.
