How Much Time Taken by the Slower Train to Cross Faster Train? If

Two goods trains each 500 m long, are running in opposite directions on parallel tracks. Their speeds are 45 km/hr and 30 km/hr respectively. Find the time taken by the slower train to pass the driver of the faster one.

    Answer: (3) 48 sec
    Explanation:-
    The length of the each goods train = 500 m
    The total length of two goods train = 500 + 500
    = 1000 m

    The speed of the first train = 45 km/hr
    Speed in m/sec = 45 x 5/18
    = 25/2 m/sec

    The speed of second train = 30 km/hr
    Speed in m/sec = 30 x 5/18
    = 25/3 m/sec

    Time taken by slower train to pass the driver of faster one = 1000/(25/2) + (25/3)
    = 1000/(75 + 50)/6
    = 1000/125/6
    = 1000 x 6/125
    = 8 x 6 = 48 sec
    Hence, the answer is (3) 48 sec.
