    Answer: (d) 12%

    Explanation:-
Let the total income of a person be Rs. X
If a person spends 40% of his income on food and 20% on house rent.
    Then, remaining = X – (X x 40/100 + X x 20/100)
    = X – (2 X/5 + X/5)
    = X –  3 X/5
    = (5 X – 3 X)/5
    = 2 X/5

And 70% of remaining on children’s education.
    Then, his left income = 2 X/5 – (2 X x 70/5 x 100)
    = 2 X/5 – 7 X/25
    = (10 X – 7 X)/25
    = 3 X/25

    So, the percentage of income left = (3 X/25) x 100/X
    = 300/25
    = 12 %

Hence, the correct answer is option (d) 12%.
