What will the Income of X? If

Incomes of x and y are in the ration 4:3. Their expenditures are in the ratio 12:7. Both save Rs.3200 at the end of the month, then the income of x is:

  1. Rs.6000
  2. Rs.8000
  3. Rs.2000
  4. Rs.4000

    Answer: (2) Rs.8000
    Explanation:-
    Let be the income of X is 4A and income of Y is 3A
    And, The total expenditure of X & Y be 12B & & 7B
    Then,
    4A – 12B = 3200                           ……………………….. (1)
    3A – 7B    = 3200                          ………………………………. (2)
    Solve equation (1) & (2)
    B = 400
    Put the value of B in equation (1)
    4A – 12 x 400 = 3200
    4A = 3200 + 4800
    4A = 8000
    Thus, the income of X = 4A = Rs.8000
    Hence, the answer is (2) Rs.8000.
