What is the present age of his son?

The average age of man and his son is 28 years. Six years hence the ratio of their age becomes 12:5. What is the present age of his son?

    Answer: (2) 14 years

    Explanation:-
    The average of man and his son = 28 years
    Then, the sum of the age of a man and his son = 2 x 28
    = 56 years

    Six years hence the sum of their ages = 56 + 2 x 6
    = 56 + 12 = 68 years

    Six years hence the ratio of their age becomes 12: 5

    Then, the age of his son = 68 x 5/17
    = 4 x 5
    = 20 years

    So, the present age of his son = 20 – 6
    = 14 years

    Hence, the correct answer is option (2) 14 years.
