    Purno Agitok Sangma (1st September 1947 Meghalaya) is an Indian Politician and a former chief minister of Meghalaya (1988- 1990) and also has been speaker of Lok Sabha (1996-1998). P A Sangma on 6 January 2013 resigned from the Congress and launched the (NPP) National People’s Party on national level and the symbol of the party is ‘Book’ because Sangma said, “Book will be the national symbol of the party because we believe that only literacy and education can empower the weaker sect0069ons.”

    He became the vice president of the Meghalaya Pradesh youth congress in 1974, and next year 1975 became the General Secretary of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee, and in 1977 the Member of Parliament, and 1988 he became the chief minister of Meghalaya, and in 1996 became the Speaker of Lok Sabha. P.A Sangma is the leader of National People’s Party.
