What will be the least value of x? If

A number x is divisible by 7. When this number is divided by 8, 12 and 16, it leaves a remainder 3 in each case. The least value of x is:

    Answer: (2) 147

    Explanation:-
    The LCM of 8, 12 and 16,
    The factors of 8 = 2 x 2 x 2 ,
    The factors of 12 = 2 x 2 x 3,
    The factors of 16 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2.

    Then, the LCM of 8, 12 and 16  = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3
     = 48

    Required number = 48 k + k                where, k = constant
    Taken k = 3
    Then, 48 x 3 + 3 
     = 144 + 3
     = 147     Which is divisible by 7, 8, 12 and 16.

    Hence, the answer is (2) 147.

    Sol.

    LCM of 8, 12, 16 = 48

    Required Number = 48k + 3 if k = 3
    the Number  = 48 *3 + 3 = 147
