How much will be Increase? If

The length and breadth of a rectangle are increased by 20 % and 25 % respectively. The increase in the area of the resulting will be:

    Answer: (4) 50 %
    Explanation:-
    Let the length of the rectangle is X m  & breadth of the rectangle is Y m.
    Then, the area of the rectangle = X Y m sq.

    Length is increase by 20 %,
    Then, the length = X + X x 20/100
    = X + X/5
    = (5 X  + X)/5
    = 6 X/5

    Breadth increased by 25 %,
    Then, the breadth  = Y + Y x 25/100
    = Y + Y/4
    = (4 Y + Y)/4
    = 5 Y /4

    The new area of the rectangle  = 6 X x 5 Y /5 x 4
    = 3 X/2
    Increased area = 3 X Y/2 – X Y
    = (3 X Y – 2 X Y )/2
    = X Y /2
    Increase in percent =  X Y x 100 /X  X x 2
    = 50 %
    Hence, the answer is (4) 50 %.
