A tangent is drawn to a circle of radius 6 cm from a point situated at a distance of 10 cm from the centre of the circle. The length of the tangent will be

    Answer: (2) 8 cm

    Explanation:-
    Given-
    Radius of the circle = 8 cm      &      distance from the point to the center of the circle = 10 cm

    PQ2 = OQ2 – OP2    (by Pythagoras theorem)
    Then, PQ2 = 102– 62
    PQ2 = 100 – 36
    PQ2 = 64
    Square root on both sides,
    PQ = 8 cm
    Then, the length of the tangent is 8 cm.
    Hence, the answer is (2) 8 cm
