Alluvial soil is the most productive soil in India.

Alluvial soil is a fine- grained fertile soil deposited by water flowing over flood plains on in river beds. They generally lack humus and Nitrogen. These soils cover 40% of the entire land area in India that  accounts covers an area of 15 lakh sq km. In fact the complete Northern plains are made up of these soil.
