A number is first decreased by 20 %. The decreased number is then increased by 20 %. The resulting number is less than the original number by 20. Then the original number is

    Answer: (3) 500
    Explanation:-
    Let be the original number is X
    According to the question,
    X – X x 20/100 = X – X/5
    = 4X/5
    Again, 20% increase  then, value of the number
    4X/5 + 4X x 20/5 x 100 = 4X/5 + 4X/25
    = 24X/25
    Resulting number is less than the original number by 20.
    Then, 24X/25 = X – 20
    X – 24X/25 = 20
    X = 25 x 20
    X = 500
    Hence, the answer is (3) 500.
