# Find Out the Pass Percentage in the Exam. If

A candidate who gets 20% marks in an examination fails by 30 marks. But if he gets 32% marks, he gets 42 marks more than the minimum pass marks. Find the pass percentage of marks.

- 25%
- 12%
- 52%
- 20%

**Answer: (1) 25%**

**Explanation:-
**Let the total marks of an examination = X

According to the question,

X x 20/100 + 30 = X x 32/100 – 42

X/5 + 30 = 8 X/25 – 42

(X + 30 x 5)/5 = (8 X – 42 x 25)/25

X + 150 = (8 X – 1050)/5

5 X + 750 = 8 X – 1050

8 X – 5 X = 1050 + 750

3 X = 1800

X = 1800/3

X = 600

Then, the total marks of an exam = 600

20% of 600 = 600 x 20/100

= 120

The minimum passing marks = 120 + 30

= 150

Then, the pass percentage of marks = 150 x 100/600

= 150/6

= 25%

Hence, the answer is (1) 25%.
