10 years ago, the average age of a family of 4 members was 24 years. Two children with age difference of 2 years have been born in the family but the average age of the family is the same. The present age of the youngest child is

    Answer: (c) 3 years
    Explanation:-
    Sum of the ages of the family of 4 members = 4 x 24 + 10 x 4 = 136 years.
    Let the X and (X + 2) be ages of new born children
    Now the present average of age = (136 + X + 2 + X)/6 = 24
    2X + 138 = 24 x 6
    2X = 144 – 138 = 6
    X = 6/2 = 3
    X = 3 years
    Hence, the age of youngest child is 3 years.
