Ratio of Boys to Girls is

In a class, the number of boys is more than the number of girls by 12% of the total strength. The ratio of boys to girls is

    Answer: (a) 14: 11
    Explanation:-

    Let be the total number of students in the class = X
    then, 12% of the total students = X x 12/100 = 3X/25

    Let be the total number of the girls in the class = Y

    The number of boys = Number of girls + 12% of the total students
    = Y + 3X/25
    Now total number of students = number of boys + number of girls
    X = Y + Y + 3X/25
    X = 2Y + 3X/25
    2Y = X – 3X/25 = 22X/25
    Y = 22X/25 x 2 = 11X/25
    Y = 11X/25   ………………………….(1)

    The number of boys: the number of girls = (Y + 3X/25): Y
    = (11X/25 + 3X/25): Y                      From equation (1)
    = 14/11 = 14:11
    The ratio of boys and girls = 14: 11
