Tectonic plate are resistant to massive transformation in structure.

Tectonic plate are massive solid rock slab of irregular shape and size. The size of these plates can very from few kilometers to thousands of kilometer across oceanic and continental lithospheres. They are also very thick, thickness ranges from 15 kilometers to 200 km.

Because of their massive size these plates are almost resistive to structural transformation. But they shift their position to about few inches in a year. This is the reason that all the five continents are separating yearly few centimeters from each other.
