A shopkeeper sold an article at a loss of 20%. But if he could sell it at Rs.200 more, he could earn a profit of 5%. The cost price of the article is

    Answer is Rs.800.

    Explanation:-
    Let the cost price of an article be Rs. X

    According to the question, 
    X x 105/100 – X x 80/100  = 200
    21 X/20 – 16 X/20 = 200
    21 X – 16 X = 200 x 20
    5 X = 4, 000
    X = 4, 000/5
    X = 800

    Then, the cost price of the article is Rs. 800. 

    Hence, the correct answer is option (4) Rs. 800.
