What will be the Speed of Car? If

A train can travel 50% faster than a car. Both start from point A at the same time and reach point B 75 kms away from A  at the same  time. On the way, however, the train lost about 12.5 minutes while stopping at the station. The speed of the car is:

  1. 100 km/h
  2. 110 km/h
  3. 120 km/h

    Answer: (3) 120 km/hr
    Explanation:-
    Let the speed of the car = X km/hr
    The train can travel 50 % than the car,
    Then, the speed of the car = X + X x 50/100
    = X + X/2
    = 3 X/2 km/hr
    The train lost about 12.5 minutes,
    Therefore,
    75/X – 75/(3X/2) = 125/10 x 60
    75/X – 75 x 2/3 X = 5/24
    75/X – 50/X = 5/24
    25/X = 5/24
    X = 24 x 25/5
    X = 120 km/hr
    Hence, the answer is (3) 120 km/hr.
