    14 States and 6 Union Territories

    The States Reorganization in 1956 created 14 states and 6 union territories. The States Reorganization Act was passed by parliament in November 1956. It provided for fourteen states and six centrally administered territories.
    The act came into effect at the same time as the Constitution 7th amendment act 1956.
