Subsidy is a form of financial support given to institutions or individual by the government. It can be given by direct (in cash, loan at minimal or zero interest rate) and indirect methods (rent rebate, tax breaks etc).

Subsidy can be given to Producing Unit as well as Consuming Unit. Either way, it will benefit the end use or consumer.
