    Answer: (a) 8.

    Solution:-
    Let the number of girls be X

    The number of boys invited were lesser by 2 in comparison of girls.
    Then, number of boys = X – 2

    The father gave Rs. 10 rupees each to boys and Rs. 20 each to girl. If he total spent Rs. 280.
    Then,  20 X + (X – 2) 10 = 280
    20 X + 10 X – 20 = 280
    30 X = 280 + 20
    30 X = 300
    X = 300/30
    X = 10

    Then, the number of boys X – 2 = 10 – 2 = 8.

    Hence, the correct answer is (a) 8.
