# Total Apples Thrown

A fruits seller buys 240 apples for Rs.600. Some of these apples are bad and are thrown away. He sells the remaining apples at Rs.3.50 each and makes a profit of Rs.198. The % of apples thrown away are:

- 8%
- 7%
- 6%
- 5%

**Answer: (4) 5%**

**Explanation:-**

A fruits seller buys 240 apples = Rs.600

Then, the C.P. of 1 apple = 640/240 = Rs.2.5

The S.P. of 1 apple = Rs.3.5

Total amount of selling apples = 600 + 198 = Rs.798

Number of selling apples = 798/3.5 = 228

Then, the number of bad apples = 240 – 228 = 12

Thus, the % of bad apples = 12 x 100/240 = 5%.

Hence, the percentage of apples thrown away are 5%.
