The Length of the Train (in Metres) :

A train takes 18 seconds to pass a railway station 162 m. long and 15 seconds to pass another station 120 m. The length of the train (in metres):

    Answer: (3) 90

    Explanation:-
    Let the length of train be X m.
    The length of a railway station  = 162 m
    Time taken by a train to pass the railway station = 18 seconds
    Then, the speed of the train = (X + 162)/18 m/sec.

    The length of another railway station = 120 m
    Time taken by the same train to pass the another railway station = 15 seconds
    Then, the  speed of the train = (X + 120)/15

    A train have a same speed,
    Then, (X + 162)/18 = (X + 120)/15
    (X + 162)/6 = (X + 120)/5
    By, cross multiplication,
    5 (X + 162) = 6 (X  +120)
    5 X + 810 = 6 X + 720
    X = – 90
    The distance always positive but not in negative.

    Then, the length of the train is X = 90 m.

    Hence, the answer is (3) 90.
