Two trains are moving in the same direction at 65 kmph and 45 kmph. The faster train crosses a man in slower train 18 seconds. The length of the first train is:
(a) 120 m
(b) 180 m
(c) 100 m
(d) 145 m

    Answer: (c) 100  m

    Solution:-
    Let the length of both trains be X m and Y m. 

    Total distance covered by the faster train = (X + Y) m 
    Relative speed = 65 – 45 = 20 km/hr
     = 20 x 5/18 
     = 100/18 m/sec 
     = 50/9 m/sec 
    Distance covered in 18 sec = 50 x 18/9
     = 100 m 

    Then, the length of the first train is 100 m. 

    Hence, the correct answer is option (c) 100.
