Nana Saheb joined the revolt primarily because he was deprived of his pension by the British. It is also believed that Nana saheb had great treasure hidded inthe palace. After the defeat and escape of Nana Saheb from Bithoor,  his palace was ransacked and damaged by the attacking English troops.
