    Answer: (1) 50 years

    Explanation:-
    The present ratio of A’s age and  B’s age = 5 : 7
    Let the present age of A = 5 X  years  & the present age of B = 7 X years

    Eighteen years ago, the ratio of A’s age to B’s age was 8 : 13.
    Then, (5 X – 18) / (7 X – 18) = 8/13
    13 x 5 X – 13 x 18 = 8 x 7 X  – 18 x 8
    65 X – 234 = 56 X – 144
    65 X – 56 X = 234 – 144
    9 X = 90
    X = 90/ 9
    X = 10
    Then, the present age of A is 5 X  = 5 x 10
    = 50 years

    Hence, the answer is (1) 50 years.
