Raigarh was the capital of Shivaji. Its situated in the Mahad, Raigad district of Maharashtra India. Shivaji made his capital in 1674. Shiva ji known as Chattrapati Shivaji Raje Bhosale Maharaj (1630-1680) Founder of the Maratha Empire.

Shivaji was most famous for his valor to challenge the mighty Mughal Empire, at the time ruled by Aurangzeb. Shivaji maharaj had seized the fort in 1656, then the fortress of Rairi, from the royal house of the Chandrar rao Mores, a junior or Cadet Dynasty to descend from the ancient Maurya imperial dynasty.

The last More King was a grantee of the Sultan of Bijapur. Shivaji renovated and enhanced the citadel of Rairi and renamed it Raigarh. It became the capital of Shivaji’s kingdom.
