Din-I-Ilahi was Founded by:
Din-i-Ilahi was Founded by Mughal Emperor Akbar. The Din-i-Ilahi characterized by Abdul Qadir Badayuni (Muntakhab-ul-Twarika) as Tauhid-i-Ilahi or Divine monotheism. The Din-i-Ilahi meaning divine religion and can be called something of a mix of Islam and Jainism, being that it has in it elements that exits in those two religion.
Akbar was a staunch Sunni Muslim, Some time he was praising whole night. He believed in pirs and fakirs and visited their Shrines. Akbar was convinced that all religions were alike in their fundamental principal. They differed only in their outer forms.
There are some practices and principles which were followed by the Din-i_Ilahi member are:
- The members were to follow a new mode fo greeting each other. One member while meeting the other was to greet him with Allahu Akbar and the other was to respond with Jaila Jalalahu.
- The members were to celebrate their birthday and invite their co-religionists to a feast.
- As far as possible the members of Din-i-Ilahi were to abstain from meat-eating but they were not to hate the meat eaters. In the month of their birth, they were no to take meat at all
- The members were to giver dinner during their lifetime instead of the dinner usually given after the death.
