Carbon is found in all Organic Compounds.  It’s an important to all organics compounds. Elemental carbon can take the form of the softest (graphite) or one of the substances (diamond). The word carbon comes from the Latin word carbon, meaning  coal. Carbon is the fourth most abundant element in the universe after hydrogen, helium, and oxygen. While carbon forms many different compounds it is a relatively nonreactive element. About 20% of the weight of living organisms is carbon.
