The Great Emperor Kanishka belonged to the Kushana Dynasty. The Emperor Kanishka ruled over the northern part of the India subcontinent, Afghanistan and Centra Asia. Kanishka was the foreigner by birth.  He adopted Buddhism as his religion.  Kanishka succeeded Kadphises II as the third king of the Kushan dynasty.  Kushan King Kanishka was the great victor and a patron of Buddhism. He had both the military ability of Chandragupta Maurya and the religious zeal of Samrat Ashoka. He was famous both in India and abroad. His famous name lives in legends of Tibet, China and Mongolia. His series of coins is also magnificent though not as extensive as those of his successor Huvishka.
