First Black American woman to win Nobel Prize for Literature is
Toni Morrison is the first Black American woman to win the Novel Prize for Literature.
She was born in Lorain, Ohio, to Ramah and George Wofford.
Her novels are known for their epic themes, vivid dialogue and richly detailed characters. Among her the best novels are the bluest Eye, Sula, Song of Solomon and Beloved.
She won the Pulitzer Prize and the American book award in 1988 for Beloved and the Novel Prize in 1993. She received the Presidential Medal of freedom on 29 may, 2012.
