    Ravindranath was first Indian to get the Nobel prize  for literature in 1913 for his ” Geetanajli”.

    RE: The Indian Recipient of Noble Prize is :

    He was born in the Jorasanko mansion in  Calcutta (West Bengal) on 7 May 1861. His nickname was “Rabi” He was also an artist. He was known as Gurudev. He gave many lecture in Japan.  His elder brother was a philosopher and poet.The British Government gave him a knighthood Crown  in 1915. He gave back the title in 1919 as a protest to Jalliawala Bagh butcher in Amritsar.
    He was died in Calcutta on 7 August 1941 in the same large house where he was born and spent his childhood.
