The difference between successive discounts of 40% followed by 30% and 45% followed by 20% on the marked price of an article is ₹ 12. The marked price of the article is:

    Answer: (3) Rs. 600

    Explanation:-
    Let the marked price of an article be Rs. 100.
    According to first condition,
    The successive discount of 40 % followed by 30 %.
    Then, the successive discount = 40 + 30 – 40 x 30/100
    = 70 – 12
    = 58%
    Then, the selling price = 100 – 58
    = Rs. 42

    According to second condition,
    The successive discount of 45% followed by 20%.
    Then, the successive discount = 45 + 20 – 45 x 20/100
    = 65 – 9
    = 56
    Then, the selling price  = 100 – 56
    = Rs. 44

    The difference between successive discounts of 40% followed by 30% and 45% followed by 20% on the marked price of an article is ₹ 12.

    Then,( 46 – 44) % = 12

    2 % = 12
    Therefore, 1 % = 12/2
    1% = 6
    Then, 100% = 600

    Then, the marked price of the article is Rs. 600.

    Hence, the answer is (3) Rs. 600.
