Sania Mirza (15 November 1986) and Indian professional tennis player and a wife of Pakistani Cricketer Shoib Malik, and world no. one in women’s double current. She is a daughter of Imran Mirza also his first coach who help to chase her dream. Sania started playing tennin at the at age of six at Hyderabad’s Nizam Club. She is the first Indian to win a WTA title and the highest ranked Indian tennis player from 2003-2013 and she is the first Indian tennis player to make more than USD 1 million.
She also became the 1st Indian woman to be seeded in Grand Slam event at the 2006 Australian Open. Sania was conferred Arjuna Award in 2004. In 2005, WTA awarded her with ‘Newcommer of the Year.’ She was also awarded a Padmashri by Indian Government in 2006. In 2005, Time Magazine listed sania among ’50 heroes of Asia”. She also featured in Economic Times “33 women who made India proud” in 2010. Sania Mirza has and honorary degree of Doctor of Letters. She received the degree from MGR Educational and Research Institute in Chennai in 2008.
