    Africa is the world second largest continent with 54 countries and one non-self-governing territory, it is second largest population in the world also. Before colonial rule Africa comprised up to 10,000 different states and autonomous groups with distinct language and customs. Africa is the land of many different people, cultures, and languages and most people identify with their tribe or nation. Arabic is spoken by 170 million people on the continent, followed in popularity by English, Swahili, French, Berber, Hausa, Portuguese and Spanish.

    Africa is the second populous continent with about 1.1 billion people or 16% of the world’s population. The largest religion in Africa is Islam, followed by Christianity. The longest river in the world, the Nile (4132 miles) is located in Africa, and Africa has the world’s largest desert, the Sahara, and Africa is the hottest continent on earth. Largest country of the Africa is the Sudan (968,000 sq miles).
