UP Government has Decided to have Metro Rail in Cities
In Uttar Pradesh Akhlesh Yadav Government has decided to run metro rain in Meerut, Kanpur, Allahabd and Varansi, after pushing for a similar project in Lucknow. The State Government has set a timeline of June 2016 for the beginning fo the Delhi-Dilshad Garden-Ghaziabad route of metro rail.
The state cabinet approved Detail Project Report (DPR) for Metro projects at Agra, Kanpur and Meerut. Earlier, the state government has moved a proposal to bring Metro in four cities of Agra, Kanpur, Meerut and Varanasi. But now, Varanasi has been excluded from the proposal and thus no city in eastern UP would get metro.
UP is the only state in the country, where metro rail will play in six cities. Metro Already exists in Ghaziabad and Noida cities and construction has started at Lucknow.
In Knapur city three metro corridors are proposed.
The first commencing from IIT-Kanpur to Kalyanpur, Kanpur University, Rawatpur, Gumti, Jharkarkati and ending at Ramadevi Crossing.
The Second route starts from IIT-Kanpur and passes through Rawatpur, VIP Road and Phoolbhagh.
The Third route shortlisted was Barra to Geeta Nagar, Ratanlal nagar, Vijay Nagar, Chunniganj, Bada Chauraha, Mall Road and ending at Phoolbagh
