Which of the Following is Used as a Lubricant?
Graphite can be used as a lubricant.
Graphite is an allotrope of Carbon. In Graphite there is a ‘Covalent’ bond lies between two layers of atoms. The bonding between atoms of same sheet are strong but atoms of adjacent sheets are very weak. Because of this smooth bonding two layers of Graphite can slip on each other hence make a slippery surface.
Because of this slippery surface Graphite can be used as a good lubricant in industries.
